COG是由Rodney Brooks在美国马萨诸塞州麻省理工学院人工智能实验室设计的一个机器人。就目前的情形来看,COG是一个有着头部和胳膊的残缺不全的作品。它的眼部装有摄影机,能够认识人和物体。对COG的教育方法是非正统的,因为它不仅仅是通过编码来理解自己的功能,而是通过器官的运算法则来逐渐地被教授新事物,以便于提供一个更加自然的学习过程、仿效人类智力的进化或普通意义的认知。COG最终将为智能机器人铺平道路,使智能机器人能够在一种有机的、未来派的环境中与人类一起生活和学习。 自从在1994年问世以来,COG已经增加了许多新部位。最初,这个机器人只有头部和身体,继而又有了胳膊和眼睛,然后是双手。COG的听觉和触觉正在发展中,双腿也正在麻省理工学院的腿部实验室被研制。 COG is a robot designed by Rodney Brooks at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab in Massachusetts, USA. At its current state COG is a torso with a head and arms. It has cameras for eyes and the capability to recognize people and objects. The approach to COG’s “education” is unorthodox in that it isn’t merely coded to understand functions, it is gradually taught new things through organic algorithms in order to provide a more natural learning process, emulating the evolution of the human mind, or cognition in general. Ultimately COG is intended to pave the way for intelligent robots capable of living and learning with people in an organic, futuristic, environment.
Since its debut in 1994 COG has gained many new parts. At first it was just a robot head and body, and then it got arms and eyes, then hands. The capabilities of hearing and touch are being developed for COG as well as robotic legs being developed at MIT’s leg lab.
